CHESTNUTS PRIMARY SCHOOL

Art and DT

"Children will develop creative and critical thinking skills and have the confidence, curiosity and  enthusiasm to explore their art, each believing that they each possess the potential for great creativity."

Art:

All pupils have the opportunity to express themselves artistically. Our curriculum is designed to deliver a high-quality education that engages, inspires and challenges all pupils, whilst following the National Curriculum. We explore a range of Artists throughout each year group that is linked to their topic. Pupils are inspired to experiment their creative ideas through a range of resources. Pupils are encouraged to develop their ideas through a hands on approach, practising, improving and developing their skills. As pupils progress throughout Chestnuts, they develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design

D&T:

In DT we develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world. We follow the National Curriculum for DT. Children will build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users. Children are given opportunities to critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others. They will understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook, using produce grown in our Garden classroom. With this, children are offered many enrichment opportunities with the potential to gain a hands-on experience by exploring where food comes from by visiting a local supermarket to understand where and how they gain their produce, giving children a deeper understanding of a balanced diet.
