CHESTNUTS PRIMARY SCHOOL

Remote learning update

Dear Families,

I hope that you are all keeping well. I think in the last week the reality of this new normal has hit hard for us all. Increasingly it is harder to adjust and see this as how things are. I know lots of you are working so hard at home and the highlight of my day is logging onto Tapestry to see what you've been up to! Keep the work (and fun) coming.

I wanted to update you on our expectations for remote learning. As you know this situation happened very quickly and we are continuously adjusting what we provide for you at home. I am also aware that some of you are motoring through the work that we posted at Easter. As a Senior Leadership Team we met (remotely) last week to discuss what next. We are very aware that every family is different, some of you are juggling 'teaching' with full time jobs, some are finding the teaching element difficult (I know it's hard in our house!), some of you don't have a printer at home, some of you don't have enought IT equipment. For this reason we have decided to give you all some options going forward. From next Monday you will receive an English and Maths timetable for the week. For Maths this will continue to be the White Rose home learning resources. White Rose have, however, started to charge for their resources. We have paid for a subscription and will post the relevant worksheets on the class website pages while you still be able to access the daily videos on the White Rose home learning website.

For English there will be 3 options:

The first is the Oak National Academy resources. These are high quality lessons, posted daily, with a video teaching the children what to do. There is then an activity to match. These lessons are pitched at National Curriculum level and written and delivered by teachers.

The second (which requires a little more input from an adult) is the bbc bitesize daily lessons. These are also high quality lessons, planned for by teachers and with small clips to support the learning.

The third (which requires no IT equipment once printed) is the classroom secrets packs, similar to the ones we posted over Easter. We are ready and happy to print these for you should you require. Please get in touch with your child's class teacher to arrange.

For Topic, please continue with the resources for the topic that teachers have set. This would have been their topic if at school!

Please be rest assured that these resources are all high quality and resources that we think will support you and your child at home. We recognise that once children are back in school we will have work to do to bring them all together and we are eagerly waiting to welcome them back.

If you have any questions about this, please email your child's class teacher for advice. I do hope there is a solution for everyone and that you all feel supported. Do get in touch if you need help!

Take care and stay safe. I miss you all so very much.

Mrs Horwood
