School Meals
School Meals at Chestnuts
We have a split lunch break with Infants eating between 11.55 - 12.55pm and Juniors between 12.25 - 1.15pm. The vast majority of children at Chestnuts eat school meals. We run our own kitchens and as such the school meals are excellent! School meals cost £2.50 per day and represent excellent value for money. We serve meals to the children in Reception up to Year Two in a style we call Family Service. This is much how you would eat at home, in smaller familiar groups (twelve children per table) and with an adult who sits with the children to eat, looking after their needs. From Year Three to Year Six the children have a supervised Self Service Cafeteria style of lunch which is better suited to older children who are increasingly independent. We highly recommend school meals and discourage children from having a packed lunch.
If you think your child is entitled to free school meals we can easily check for you. Just come into the school office and ask office staff to check for you. You will simply need to provide your National Insurance number, full name and date of birth. Being entitled to free school meals can help you access support with breakfast and after school club fees. Remember that all meals for children in Reception, Year One and Year Two are free: simply complete the Registration form if your child is in one of these year groups.
