CHESTNUTS PRIMARY SCHOOL

Key Information

Our School
Chestnuts Primary was formed in September 2004 following the amalgamation of separate infant and junior schools. We offer places to 420 boys and girls.  We have 14 classrooms, an art room, music room, a parent room, a garden and cooking room, swimming pool, fabulously resourced Library and a wide range of ICT equipment for use throughout the school.

Take a look at our Who's who to find out all the wonderful staff we have in our school.

Admissions
Chestnuts is a very popular local school and we hold a waiting list for most year groups. If you are considering Chestnuts as your child's school we would recommend that you come and see us. Call the school office for an appointment. Children are admitted to Chestnuts in accordance with Haringey Council admissions criteria. Click here to see the Haringey admissions Policy.

Attendance
Over the last few years we have been working really hard with parents to improve the attendance and punctuality of children at chestnuts. We expect children to be in school on time every day. We totally understand that children become ill and if this is the case, please call the school office as early as possible to let us know.

School Meals
We have a split lunch break with Infants eating between 11.55 - 12.55pm and Juniors between 12.25 - 1.15pm. The vast majority of children at Chestnuts eat school meals. We run our own kitchens and as such the school meals are excellent! School meals cost £2.50 per day and present excellent value for money.  We highly recommend school meals and discourage children from having a packed lunch. Since September 2013/14  the Government have made a commitment to provide all Infant children with Free School Meals - this will be reviewed at the end of the school year.  Therefore, all infant children will get a cooked meal everyday free of charge. Menu boards are displayed outside school where you can view the following week’s menu.  Please contact the main office indicating your child's meal preference. I should remind you that the onus is on parents to tell us if their child moves from school lunches to pack lunch. Parents of Junior children will be required to pay for the meals in advance. Families need to choose whether their child is packed lunch or school dinner termly, or we will by default enter you child for school lunches.

If you think your child is entitled to free school meals we can easily check for you. Just come into the school office and ask either Mary or Louise to check for you. You will simply need to National Insurance number and your date of birth for us to check for you. Being entitled to free school meals can help you access support with breakfast and after school club fees, it also helps the school access valuable Pupil Premium funding which can be used to support your child's learning.

School Uniform
In September 2015 Chestnuts made wearing school uniform compulsory. This uniform consists of a Gold polo shirt, brown or gold jumper and grey/black/brown trousers or skirts. We ask that children wear sensible shoes that are fastened to their feet for safety and no jewellery. For more information see our uniform policy

PE/Swimming
At Chestnuts we have our own swimming pool and all our children swim. We have chosen to put swimming as part of our PE curriculum and as such employ a qualified swimming instructor.  You can purchase a swimming cap from the school office for the price of £2. Physical Education (PE) is a key part of the curriculum and children must take part in all lessons. For PE and games lessons your child will need; a pair of shorts, a t-shirt and plimsolls. For outdoor games they can wear tracksuit trousers and sweater with trainers.

We passionately believe in healthy body, healthy mind and all children take part in daily exercise, mindfulness or meditation.

NOTE:  PE, Games and swimming are curriculum activities and such are compulsory, your child will need a medical note to be exempted.

How to pay fees
There are a few different things we may ask you to pay for; School Meals (juniors only), after school club or breakfast club.  All the fees in school are managed by our School Business Manager. If you call the school a member of staff in the office will be able to tell you how much you owe. You can also pay us in many different ways; cheque made payable to Chestnuts Primary School, directly into our bank account (get our bank details from our School Business Manager), online Parent Pay or child care vouchers.  If you are unsure about are fees or payment systems please contact finance office on the following email address: finance@chestnutsprimary.com
