Eric Carle is acclaimed and beloved as the creator of brilliantly illustrated and innovatively designed picture books for very young children. His best-known work, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, has eaten its way into the hearts of literally millions of children all over the world and has been translated into 62 languages

Carle says: “With many of my books I attempt to bridge the gap between the home and school. To me home represents, or should represent; warmth, security, toys, holding hands, being held. School is a strange and new place for a child. Will it be a happy place? There are new people, a teacher, classmates—will they be friendly?

I believe the passage from home to school is the second biggest trauma of childhood; the first is, of course, being born. Indeed, in both cases we leave a place of warmth and protection for one that is unknown. The unknown often brings fear with it. In my books I try to counteract this fear, to replace it with a positive message. I believe that children are naturally creative and eager to learn. I want to show them that learning is really both fascinating and fun.”

This half term we will be learning about Ourselves, our Families and our Favourite Things.

We will be reading

the Eric Carle book From Head to Toe 

We will be looking at some of the lovely books by Todd Parr such as We Belong Together and The Family Book

And familiar texts such as The Tiger Who came to Tea  and Kipper's Toybox.

The skills we will be learning are as follows:

  • We would like your children to become more confident in using their fine motor skills to build towers, make marks and begin to use one handed tools such as scissors.
  • We will also work on developping your children's communication and language skills by enriching their vocabulary and helping them to understand words and simple sentences.
  • Their personal, social and emotional development will be supported through short carpet sessions to establish the rules and routines in Nusery. To ensure that all children delevelop their ability to work and play together we will reinforce the importance of sharing and taking turns throughout the day.

 

What you need to know:

 

All children are expected to wear the top part of the Chestnuts Uniform (A brown or yellow jumper/cardigan with or without Chestnuts logo and a yellow pollo shirt)

The bottom part has to be comfortable and easy to put on and take off.

Shoes have to be comfortable and easy to fasten (slip-ons or velcro)

All clothes should be labelled.

 In addition to this your child needs:

  • Warm waterproof coat for being outdoors
  • Wellies
  • Spare clothes on the peg

 

Key Person

Your child has been allocated a key person. This is the person who is the first point of contact regarding your child’s wellbeing and learning.

You will meet with your child’s key person for a learning review once per term.

 

Timetable

Caterpillars (2-3 Yr old)

Morning Session starts at 8:45

Morning Session ends at 11:40 (pick up at 11:45 at the latest)

Afternoon Session starts at 12:45

Afternoon session ends at 15:45

 

Butterflies (3-4 Yr old)

Morning session starts at 9:00

Afternoon session ends at 15:15

Block 1 ( Monday to Wednesday morning) Children to be picked up at 11:35 at the latest on Wednesday morning.

Block 2 (Wednesday aftertoon to Friday) Children to be dropped off at 12:45 on Wednesday afternoon.
